Alaska Cruise Ports of Call
During your Alaska cruise you will be stopping at various ports of
call. These ports of call will give you the chance to enjoy some shore
excursions that you may find of interest. The ports of call you stop at
will depend on your cruise line and package. Most cruise lines will
allow for a day of sightseeing and such at each port of call.
Anchorage has a lot of adventure to offer during your
shore excursion. Anchorage has many places that will allow you to learn
more about Alaska's history. Information on Alaskan culture can be
obtained at the Alaska Native Heritage Center, where you can see
traditional structures of native villages along with many informative
exhibits. If you are feeling adventurous and want to see the
remote wilderness and Alaskan wildlife, take a bear viewing tour. This
tour will take you in a floatplane approximately 70 miles away from
Anchorage to the Lake Clark Wilderness Preserve. From there you will go
by boat with a guide through the area searching for bears.
Haines port of call will have you deep in native
legends and folklores. Have a drink in one of the local bars and be spun
a web of tales on ancient tribal legends. Haines is also a remarkable
port of call during your Alaska cruise because it offers great dining
and awe inspiring museums. You will come away with a wealth of ancient
knowledge during your shore excursion in Haines.
Icy Strait Point is a port of call that accommodates
only one ship at a time in its port. Icy Strait Point offers history
lessons along with some extreme adventures that you can take part in
during your shore excursion. Your history lesson can begin with learning
of the Icy Straits Packing Company during the historical tour along with
the Cannery Museum. As you continue with your history lesson learn of
the Tlingit people who are native to the area. If you want
extreme adventure while in Icy Strait Point, take part in the Grizzly
Bear search aboard a 25-passenger bus that will take you through the
Tongrass National Forest. If that's not enough, you can take a flight
out to Glacier Bay National Park and fly around sightseeing the
beautiful glaciers. Fishing is also available upon a commercial fishing
vessel for those that love to fish.
Juneau is the capital of Alaska and will be sure not to
disappoint you during you Alaska cruise. Filled with fine dining,
museums and everything you would expect from a big city and then some.
For adventure, take the shore excursion that puts you in a helicopter
that will fly you over the glacial landscape. When you land, you'll be
taken on an amazing dogsled ride. White-water rafting is also at your
fingertips. While in Juneau take the time to see some of Alaska's
magnificent whales on a whale watching tour.
Seward is one of the great ports that you will have the
chance to see during your Alaska cruise vacation. Being one of the
oldest cities inside of Alaska it has so much to offer visitors. While
docked in Seward take the time to try out the fishing. A great fishing
excursion will be yours complete with a native Alaskan captain that will
dictate what you fish for. His knowledge will allow for you to catch
great fish in one of the richest waters in Alaska. See the wonderful
marine life on dayboat cruise in the Kenai Fjords National Park. It is
here that you will see whales, sea lions and much more.
